When it comes to preserving your precious memories, using the best equipment is paramount. At our company, every item is carefully handled by myself or my partner Michele. We've spent years refining our system to ensure the highest quality for your films and photos. In this blog post, we'll give you an inside look at the top-notch equipment we use to digitize your memories.

Professional Equipment for VHS and Camcorder Transfers:
For VHS and camcorder transfers, we use professional transfer devices that capture huge data streams via firewire. Initially, most of our transfers are between 10-20 gigabytes per film, providing us with ample data to work with when enhancing your movie. Β Other companies may use off the shelf equipment from Amazon or Best Buy; we find such equipment provides an inferior transfer compared to our machines. We also regularly clean our equipment.

Archival-Quality Equipment for Your Films:
Our film digitization process begins with Michele carefully cleaning each film before handing it off to me. We use the Retroscan Mark II scanner, a state-of-the-art, glassless, and sprocket-less scanning system that retails for over ten thousand dollars.. This scanner was designed for the prestigious Academy of Motion Picture Film Archives in Hollywood.
The Retroscan Mark II is gentle on your film, avoiding the use of "claws" like traditional projectors. This ensures that your film won't break or be damaged during the scanning process, preserving your memories in the highest quality possible.

Archival-Quality Equipment for Your Photos:
Our commitment to quality extends to our photo digitization process as well. After Michele cleans each photo, I immediately scan it using our archival-grade glassless scanning system, which features a 50-megapixel camera. This approach avoids smudges from glass and ensures the cleanest possible scan.
Camera scanning is superior to the flatbed scanning technology many transfer companies use, as it produces more vibrant scans and captures better detail in darker areas. An initial scan of a 5 x 7 photo produces a resolution of 8500 x 5800 pixels, which is around 800 DPI (dots per inch). Β Many home flatbeds are set to scan at Β 300 DPI.

Our dedication to using the best equipment available ensures that your films, photos, and videos are digitized in the highest quality possible. With our archival-grade scanners and professional transfer devices, you can trust that your precious memories will be preserved for generations to come.
